Newport Beach packs a lot of riding into one city: the flat Back Bay loop around Upper Newport Bay, the climb up Newport Coast Drive toward Pelican Hill, and PCH south past Crystal Cove toward Laguna. A week of that puts climbing, descending and sea air on the same bike.

Sea air is the part riders underestimate. Salt gets into chains, cables, bolts and bearings and speeds up corrosion, and a bike that's ridden near the water most days needs cleaning and fresh lube far more often than one kept inland. That's the core of the Newport work on our bench, alongside electronic shifting and race-bike setup. We agree the job and the price with you before starting.

Getting your bike to the shop from Newport Beach

About 8.5 miles by road from Newport Beach Civic Center (100 Civic Center Dr) (6.9 miles in a straight line). Approximate: computed from OpenStreetMap coordinates and routing data. Traffic and your exact start point change it.

From the Civic Center (100 Civic Center Dr, Newport Center): take Avocado Ave to MacArthur Blvd and go north for about 3 miles. Join the 73 north for about 2.8 miles and exit at Fairview Rd, just before the 405. Go north on Fairview, which becomes S Fairview St at the Santa Ana line, and turn left on W MacArthur Blvd. The shop is about half a mile along, in Suite B.

Combining errands: South Coast Plaza is about 1.6 miles from the shop in a straight line, so a drop-off fits easily around a trip to South Coast Metro.

Repairs Newport Beach riders ask for most

  • Salt-air drivetrain clean — Chain, cassette, rings and derailleurs stripped of grime and salt, cleaned and re-lubed. The fix for gritty, noisy shifting after coastal miles. Book this
  • Cables and housing — Corroded cables make shifting vague and brakes heavy. Fresh cables and housing put both right. Book this
  • Di2 and AXS — Install, pairing, firmware and fine-tuning for Shimano Di2 and SRAM AXS. Book this · More
  • Brakes for the Newport Coast descent — Pads, rotors and caliper alignment, so the drop back from Pelican Hill to PCH is controlled. Book this · More
  • Triathlon bike service — Pre-race checks and cockpit setup for tri bikes before race day. Book this · More

On the Back Bay, Back Bay Dr has a 15 mph limit, and weekend paths get busy, so brakes that grab cleanly matter more than speed. If you ride PCH early before the traffic builds, our PCH ride guide covers the route; for the bike, a regular rinse, dry and re-lube does more than any upgrade.
