San Diego County has a strong cycling scene and its own Cervélo dealers, and Cervélo's store locator will show you the nearest. So why would a rider from Oceanside, Carlsbad or Encinitas drive an hour north? Usually for one of three reasons: they want to compare Cervélo with Pinarello and Colnago at one authorized dealer; they want a builder to put the bike together, not just unbox it; or they're already in Orange County often enough that the trip is easy. Cervélo for triathletes

North County has a big triathlon community, and the P-series is Cervélo's triathlon and time-trial line. A tri bike is a bigger setup job than a road bike: an integrated front end, extensions and pads that set your position, hidden brakes, internal routing, and hydration and storage. We assemble and set up tri bikes in-house and service triathlon bikes of any brand, including pre-race checks. Cervélo's road and gravel range on cervelo.com includes:

• S5: the aero race bike, for fast coast-road miles on Highway 101.

Making one trip count

From San Diego County, the goal is fewer, better-prepared visits:

1. Quote and sizing by phone first. Send a Cervélo quote request with your height, current bike and how you ride, or call (714) 760-4908. We go through size and options before anything is ordered.
2. You get a quote. Nothing is ordered until you say yes.
3. We build it. Assembled, torqued to spec, cockpit and shifting set up. Upgrades such as ENVE, Princeton or Scope wheels and CeramicSpeed bearings can go on at the same time.
4. One pick-up visit. We go through the bike with you and make final adjustments when you collect it.

Coast-proofing a Cervélo

Salt air and sand are hard on chains, bolts, cables and bearings. If you ride the coast, regular drivetrain cleaning and hardware checks keep a carbon race bike running well. We do that as part of a tune-up, along with Di2 and AXS firmware and battery checks and hydraulic brake bleeds.

Getting here from North County

Approximate road miles from city hall, with rough off-peak drive times: Oceanside about 51.2 miles (50–65 min), Carlsbad about 54.1 miles (55–70 min), Encinitas about 63.4 miles (65–80 min). Routes take the I-5 north, then either the SR-73 toll road to Fairview Rd or the I-5 and I-405 as a free alternative.
