Orange County is a big place to ride. In one county you get the Pacific Coast Highway, the Back Bay, the Santa Ana River Trail, Turtle Rock, Santiago Canyon and the Ortega Highway, and each of them wears a bike in its own way. Coast miles bring salt air and sand into the drivetrain. Canyon descents heat up brake pads and old brake fluid. Long trail days put miles on chains, cassettes and tires faster than most riders expect. This page is our guide to bike repair for riders anywhere in Orange County: what we do, how the work is organized, how to get the bike to us and which city page to read for directions.

Veloaded Cyclery is one shop, at 3420 W MacArthur Blvd Suite B in Santa Ana, on W MacArthur Blvd between Fairview St and Harbor Blvd, just north of the 405. Edgar Rodriguez, our Founder & Master Builder, runs the bench. We don't have branches in other cities, so every repair for every Orange County city comes to the same stand and the same person. We work on bikes of any brand, wherever you bought them. Hablamos español.

01 Veloaded Essential Service

The Essential Service is the starting point on our menu and the right booking for most bikes that are shifting a little off, feel tired or haven't been looked at in a season. In Ed's words, it covers:

  • Drivetrain deep cleaning: chain, cassette, chainrings and derailleurs cleaned of the road and trail grit that wears them out.
  • Derailleur hanger alignment: a slightly bent hanger is one of the most common causes of shifting that never feels right, especially after a bike has been on a car rack or tipped over.
  • Component reinstallation and adjustment: parts go back on and are adjusted so shifting and braking work the way they should.
  • Component inspection of the chain, tires, brake pads and tubeless sealant, so you know what's wearing out before it fails on a ride.
  • A final safety check before the bike goes home.

If the inspection finds something that needs more work, such as a worn chain, a bearing that's gone rough or pads near the end, we tell you and quote it before anything is replaced. Prices are confirmed with you before work starts, and parts are quoted separately.

03 Di2 / AXS / Campy Setup

Electronic groupsets are now normal on road, triathlon and gravel bikes, and they bring their own repair jobs: firmware updates, pairing, battery and junction issues, wiring inside integrated cockpits, and derailleur trim that has to be set precisely. We install, pair, update and fine-tune Shimano Di2, SRAM AXS and Campagnolo electronic groupsets. That includes moving a groupset to a new frame and building a new bike around one. Details on the Di2 and AXS service page.

Brakes: bleeds, pads and rotors

Orange County's canyon roads are hard on brakes. A long descent off Santiago Canyon, Ortega Highway or Newport Coast heats the system, and old fluid with absorbed moisture or air in the line shows up as a soft or inconsistent lever. A hydraulic brake bleed replaces the fluid and gives you a firm, consistent lever again, on road or mountain disc brakes. Brake service also covers pads, rotor truing and caliper alignment on rim and disc bikes. If your brakes squeal, rub or feel different from one ride to the next, book a brake check rather than waiting for it to get worse.

Wheels, tires and tubeless

We true wheels laterally and radially, check spoke tension and replace broken spokes, and we build wheels from the rim up. See wheel building and truing. Tubeless setup covers new installs, sealant refreshes and valve service. Sealant dries out over time, so a tire that sealed perfectly last year may not seal a puncture this year. Flat repairs and tire installs are on the menu too. Riders who live on the river trail or ride the coast tend to pick up more glass and debris than canyon riders, so it's worth checking tires and sealant more often.

Drivetrain, bearings and the rest of the menu

Beyond the signature services, the menu covers a full service and overhaul for bikes that get ridden hard, pre-race checks before a big event, drivetrain deep cleans, bottom bracket and bearing service (including creak hunting on press-fit and threaded bottom brackets), cables and housing, component installs and upgrades, bar tape and cockpit work, new bike assembly and custom builds. The full list, with booking links, is below and on the service menu.

Full professional bike fit

A repair is a good moment to look at fit, especially if something hurts on long rides or you've changed saddle, bars or shoes. Ed does full professional bike fits at the shop, with saddle, cockpit, lever and cleat position dialed in for how you ride. See professional bike fitting, and read how to choose a bike fit before you book.

Between services

Heat, coastal salt air and Santa Ana winds all wear a bike in different ways. Our guide to road bike maintenance for Orange County riders covers a simple chain and tire routine and the signs that mean it is time to book a repair.

How booking a repair works

  1. Book or call. Choose a service on the booking page or call (714) 760-4908. Not sure what's wrong? Choose "Not sure, diagnose it" and describe what the bike is doing: the noise, when it happens and what changed.
  2. Confirm a drop-off time. The shop calls or texts to confirm when to bring the bike in.
  3. Look it over together. At drop-off we look at the bike with you, go through the work and confirm the price before anything starts.
  4. Work and pick-up. We call or text when it's ready and walk you through what we did when you collect it.

Can't bring it in? We accept bikes, frames and wheels shipped to the shop. Call (714) 760-4908 or email [email protected] first to arrange it and get a service ticket, then ship to 3420 W MacArthur Blvd Suite B, Santa Ana, CA 92704, and ask us about return shipping details.
