San Bernardino County riding goes up. From the west valley, foothill roads climb toward Mount Baldy and the San Gabriels; from San Bernardino and Redlands, mountain highways climb thousands of feet into the San Bernardino Mountains. What goes up comes down, and long mountain descents are the hardest test a bike's brakes and wheels face. That's why brake and wheel work tops the list for riders here, alongside the everyday service that dust, heat and miles make necessary.

Brakes for mountain descents

On a long descent, hydraulic disc brakes heat up. Old fluid, especially DOT fluid that has absorbed moisture, handles heat worse, and the lever can feel softer or less consistent near the bottom. Pads wear faster on mountain roads, and rotors can warp if they're overheated. Before mountain season, consider a hydraulic brake bleed, a check of pad thickness, and rotor truing. It isn't glamorous work, but it's the work that matters most here.

The service menu

  • 01 Veloaded Essential Service: drivetrain deep cleaning, derailleur hanger alignment, component reinstallation and adjustment, component inspection (chain, tires, brake pads and tubeless sealant) and a final safety check. Dust from Chino Hills State Park trails and valley roads makes the deep clean especially worthwhile.
  • 03 Di2 / AXS / Campy Setup: Shimano Di2, SRAM AXS and Campagnolo electronic groupsets installed, paired, updated and fine-tuned. Mountain riders often pair it with a wider-range cassette for steeper climbs. Electronic shifting service.
  • Hydraulic brake bleed, road or MTB.
  • Wheel true and spoke repair: descents and rough foothill roads test wheels. Wheel truing.
  • Bottom bracket and bearings: climbing torque finds creaks.
  • Custom build, for example a lighter climbing bike: custom bike builds.

We don't publish prices; your job and any parts are confirmed with you before work starts. See the full service menu.

West valley or east valley?

West valley (Chino, Chino Hills, Ontario, Upland, Rancho Cucamonga): the SR-57 south and SR-22 west to Harbor Blvd make Santa Ana a manageable drive, about 32 to 45 road miles. Drop-off and pick-up are practical.

East valley (Fontana, San Bernardino, Redlands): about 53 to 59 road miles, usually via the I-215 and SR-91 or the I-10 and SR-57. Combining jobs into one visit, or shipping, often makes more sense. We accept bikes, frames and wheels shipped to the shop at 3420 W MacArthur Blvd Suite B, Santa Ana, CA 92704. Call (714) 760-4908 or email [email protected] first to arrange it and get a service ticket, and ask us about return shipping details. Our shipping guide explains how to pack it.

Climbing and descending checklist

  • Before the climb: check tire pressure and sealant, make sure the chain is clean and lubed, and confirm your lowest gear engages cleanly.
  • Before the descent: squeeze both levers hard. If either comes close to the bar or feels spongy, get it looked at before the next mountain day.
  • After a wet or dusty ride: clean the drivetrain and rotors; contaminated pads lose stopping power.
  • If something creaks under climbing torque: book it in. Bottom brackets, thru-axles, seatposts and cockpit bolts are common sources, and finding the real one takes patience.

Gravel and mountain bikes from the west valley

Chino and Chino Hills riders have state-park trails next door, and Upland and Rancho Cucamonga riders have the Pacific Electric Trail and foothill dirt. Gravel and mountain bikes get the same bench as road bikes: drivetrain deep cleaning after dusty seasons, tubeless refreshes, hydraulic brake bleeds and bearing work. Tell us what you ride and where, and we'll focus the inspection there.

How booking works

  1. Book online or call (714) 760-4908 and describe the problem, including when it happens: on climbs, on descents, under hard pedaling.
  2. The shop calls or texts to confirm your drop-off time.
  3. We inspect, tell you what we find and confirm anything extra before doing it.
  4. Final safety check, then pick-up or return shipping as arranged.

Bring any brand. If a new bike is on your mind for the mountain roads, see the Cervélo, Pinarello and Colnago guides; for comfort on long climbs, bike fitting.

Questions riders ask

Do you true wheels after a hard mountain season?

Yes. Wheel true and spoke repair covers lateral and radial truing, a tension check and broken spokes replaced, on road, gravel and mountain wheels of any brand.

Should I bleed my brakes before riding in the mountains?

If the lever feels soft or inconsistent, or the fluid hasn't been changed in a long time, yes. A bleed restores a firm, consistent lever.

Can you change my gearing for steep climbs?

Yes. We can talk through cassette and chainring options and confirm compatibility with your groupset, including Di2, AXS and Campagnolo.

Is the drive from Redlands worth it?

For a single small fix, probably not. For bigger jobs, combine them into one visit or ship to us by arrangement.

Do you service mountain bikes?

Yes. We service road, triathlon, gravel and mountain bikes of any brand, including hydraulic brakes and tubeless.

Can east-valley riders ship instead?

Yes. Contact us at (714) 760-4908 or [email protected] to get a service ticket, then ship to the shop; agree return shipping details at the same time.
