SANDAG's Inland Rail Trail follows the rail corridor between Oceanside and Escondido through Vista and San Marcos, and some segments are open while others are still being built. Head west on SR-78 to the coast, then north on the I-5 through Camp Pendleton. In Orange County, pick the SR-73 toll road or the free I-405 and exit at Fairview Rd. From the 78 interchange it's mostly one freeway.
