From San Diego County, a custom build works best when almost everything happens before you get in the car. We plan the bike with you by phone or email, check every part for compatibility, quote it, order it once you say yes, and build it. You make one visit, to collect it. If you already have a frame or wheels, you can ship them to us.

Triathlon, gravel and coast builds

San Diego riders bring us three kinds of builds more than any other:

  • Triathlon and TT builds. Integrated fronts, hydration and storage, extensions and hidden brakes make tri builds detailed work. We assemble and set them up in-house; see triathlon bike service.
  • Gravel builds for dirt roads inland, with tire clearance, gearing range and tubeless setup planned from the start.
  • Coast road builds, where we pay attention to hardware and bearings that sit in salt air.

Parts we build with

We're authorized dealers of Pinarello, Colnago and Cervélo; ENVE, Princeton and Scope wheels; CeramicSpeed; Shimano; and Look, Scott, KASK, MET, ASSOS, Q36.5 and Velocio. Other parts are fine once we've confirmed they're compatible. Recent builds on our Instagram include a Pinarello Dogma F, a Cervélo S5 and a custom ENVE road build.

The remote build, step by step

  1. Send the plan. Request a build quote or call (714) 760-4908 with the frame, your size, how you ride and the parts you want.
  2. We check compatibility: bottom bracket and crank, headset and steerer, internal routing, brakes and rotors, axles, tire clearance, groupset, wheels and power meter.
  3. Quote, then order. Nothing is ordered until you say yes.
  4. Ship anything you already own. We accept bikes, frames and wheels shipped to the shop at 3420 W MacArthur Blvd Suite B, Santa Ana, CA 92704. Call (714) 760-4908 or email [email protected] first to arrange it and get a service ticket, and ask us about return shipping details.
  5. We build it, torqued to spec, with shifting and brakes dialed in.
  6. Collect in one visit. Add a full professional fit with Ed on the same day if you want one; see bike fitting for San Diego riders.

What to send with a shipped frame

If you ship a frame, fork or wheels to us, a little preparation saves time once it arrives:

  • Call or email first to arrange it and get a service ticket, and include your name and ticket details in the box.
  • Send the full parts list, including anything you're supplying yourself, so we can check compatibility before the build starts.
  • Include small parts that came with the frame, such as headset parts, seatpost, thru-axles and hardware.
  • Note your current saddle height and position if you want them carried over.

Ask us about return shipping details when you arrange it.

Starting from a dealer bike

If you'd rather start from a complete bike, see our Cervélo, Pinarello and Colnago guides for San Diego riders. Upgrades can go on at build time.

Questions riders ask

Can the whole build be planned without visiting first?

Usually, yes. Most San Diego riders plan the build by phone or email and visit once to collect the bike.

Can I ship a frame I bought elsewhere?

Yes. Call or email first to arrange it and get a service ticket, and send the full parts list so we can check compatibility.

How much does a build cost?

It depends on the frame and parts. You get a quote for parts and labor before anything is ordered.

Do you build triathlon bikes?

Yes, including integrated fronts, extensions and hidden brakes.

Can a fit be part of the build?

Yes. Ed does full professional bike fits, so stem, bar, crank length and saddle can be chosen around your position before the build, then fine-tuned when you collect the bike.

Do you build gravel bikes for San Diego backcountry riding?

Yes. We plan tire clearance, gearing range and tubeless setup with you before anything is ordered.
