Choosing a helmet for Orange County heat
Ventilation matters here. Summer climbs on Santiago Canyon and inland rides in the Santa Ana River corridor get hot, and a helmet that traps heat makes a long day harder. Riders who mostly climb or ride inland in summer often prefer a well-vented helmet like the Valegro. Riders on flat, fast coastal roads, or racing, may prefer an aero option. Many riders own two.
Fit first
A helmet only protects you if it fits. Head shape varies, and the same size from two brands can feel very different. Try a helmet on with your sunglasses, check that it sits level and doesn't move when you shake your head, and adjust the retention system and straps. Replace any helmet after a crash, even if it looks fine. Come in and we'll help you find the right size.
