Why Huntington Beach riders book a fit

Huntington Beach riders split their miles between the beach path, PCH and the Santa Ana River Trail, which meets the coast at the city's southeast corner. It's flat and fast, which sounds easy on the body, but flat riding keeps you in one position with no climbs to break it up. Saddle pressure, a sore neck from holding the drops into a headwind, and numb hands are common on long coastal rides.

If you ride a triathlon or time-trial bike on PCH, the aero position matters even more: it has to be one you can hold for the whole effort, not just look fast in the garage.

Getting to the shop from Huntington Beach

Veloaded Cyclery is one shop, in Santa Ana at 3420 W MacArthur Blvd Suite B, Santa Ana, CA 92704: about 6.5 road miles from Huntington Beach City Hall, roughly 15–25 min off-peak (approximate, from OpenStreetMap routing; rush-hour traffic on the 405, 5 and 55 can add a lot).

From City Hall (2000 Main St), go north on Main St, then Ellis Ave and Newland St to Talbert Ave, and head east on Talbert. Talbert becomes MacArthur Blvd where it crosses the Santa Ana River; the shop is just under a mile past the river, between Harbor Blvd and Fairview St, in Suite B. Riding instead? Take the Santa Ana River Trail north from PCH to the Talbert/MacArthur crossing, then head east on MacArthur.

3. Bring your bike, cycling shoes and pedals, and the kit you usually ride in.
