Inland Empire riding asks a lot of a bike: long mountain climbs out of the valley, long fast descents, heat, dust and wind. A custom build lets you plan the frame, gearing, wheels, tires and brakes around that, instead of adapting a stock bike afterward. Because the drive to Santa Ana is real, we plan the build with you by phone or email first, so the only trip you have to make is to collect it.
Built for the climbs you actually ride
- Mt. Baldy Road: about 8 miles from Claremont to Baldy Village, then about 5 very steep miles to the ski lifts. Most riders want the lowest gear they can get, so we plan cassette, crank and derailleur capacity together. See the Mt. Baldy ride guide.
- Rim of the World Highway (SR-18): about 22 miles and 5,000 ft at 4.4% from San Bernardino toward Crestline. Long descents heat brakes, so rotor size and pads matter. See the Rim of the World guide.
- Oak Glen Road: 9.0 miles and 2,615 ft at 5.5% from Yucaipa Blvd. See the Oak Glen guide.
- Valley miles: the Pacific Electric Trail, a 21-mile rail-trail from Montclair to Rialto, and the rolling roads of Temecula wine country.
Heat, dust and tubeless
Valley heat dries tubeless sealant faster than most riders expect, and dust wears drivetrains and bearings. We plan tire size and clearance, tubeless setup and bearing choices at build time, and CeramicSpeed bearings can go in then too. Check sealant more often in summer.
What we build with
We're proud authorized dealers of Colnago, Pinarello, Bianchi and Cervélo for frames and bikes; ENVE, Princeton and Scope for wheels; CeramicSpeed for bearings and drivetrain parts; and Shimano for groupsets, plus Look, Scott, KASK, MET, ASSOS, Q36.5 and Velocio. Other parts are fine once we've checked compatibility.
Planning a build from the Inland Empire
- Tell us the idea. Request a build quote or call (657) 744-9442 with the frame, how and where you ride, your size and the parts you have in mind.
- Compatibility check. Before anything is ordered we check bottom bracket and crank standards, headset and steerer, internal routing, brake and rotor sizes, axle standards, tire clearance, and groupset, wheel and power meter compatibility.
- Quote. You get a quote for parts and labor first. Nothing is ordered until you say yes.
- Ship anything you already own. We accept bikes, frames and wheels shipped to the shop at 3420 W MacArthur Blvd Suite B, Santa Ana, CA 92704. Call (657) 744-9442 or email veloadedcyclery@gmail.com first to arrange it and get a service ticket, and ask us about return shipping details.
- Build. Frame prep, bottom bracket and headset, groupset, brakes, wheels and cockpit, all torqued to spec, then shifting and brakes dialed in.
- Collect in one visit. Add a full professional fit with Ed the same day if you want one; see bike fitting for Inland Empire riders.

Questions riders ask
Can I bring my own parts?
Ask us. We're happy to use parts you already have once we've checked compatibility.
Do you build gravel, triathlon and mountain bikes?
Yes: road, triathlon, gravel and mountain builds.
What gearing should I build for Mt. Baldy?
Most riders want the lowest gear they can get for the last steep miles. We plan cassette size, crank and derailleur capacity together so the shifting still works across the range.
What will my build cost?
That depends entirely on the frame and parts you choose. Every part and the labor are itemized in a quote, and nothing is ordered until you approve it.
Can my build be set up around a fit?
Yes. Book a full professional fit with Ed before the cockpit is cut and cabled, so stem, bar, crank length and saddle are chosen around you.
Where do I pick up the bike?
